WorkApps Chat Connectivity in Organisation Network

Help- configure firewall to whitelist the Video Call URLs in your domain

The details given below give the step by step information about when & how to Whitelist URLs & the Configuration required in your Organization network to enable WorkApps Chat Video Calling & Text Messaging.

This should be referred when Video Call or Chat Messaging does NOT work on an Organization Network.

How to Identify?

When users on WorkApps Chat Video Call CANNOT see each other's' video or Chat messages; this can be confirmed. A quick WorkApps "Chat Connectivity" check on this URL https://www.workapps.com/videocheck would identify specific URL where traffic is NOT enabled in a network.

Which OS(Operating System) & Browser should I use Video Call & Check?

OS-Windows 7 & above

Whitelist URL Protocol Browser Supported
UDP (DTLS) Google Chrome Browser Version 72.x & above
Firefox Version 66.0 & above
TCP Google Chrome Browser Version 72.x & above

Who Should Refer This?

The Network Administrator who has access to define & configure Network Policies.

How to identify Connectivity Check Failure?

In case if any of the check is failed; refer the image below, follow the instructions given in the next section to resolve the issue.

Why does this happen?

When in an organization, users are behind a Network Firewall or Proxy. The traffic is allowed for only a set of URLs.

How to Resolve?

Step by Step:

  1. Find the one where check is failed. Red cross is the one which needs your attention
  2. Open your Network Firewall settings and add the failed URL and for given protocol as a whitelisted one in it.
  3. Recheck URL https://www.workapps.com/videocheck
  4. Ensure that the whitelisting you done for the given URL and protocol are working fine; where it is shown as a green tick mark.

In the above screenshot where "DTLS (udp) Turn server check" is failed for turn.workapps.com URL and Port 443, DTLS traffic. It should be allowed in your Network Firewall settings. Allow traffic from all workapps.com servers with *. WorkApps.com domain.

Make sure that all traffic can pass over this DTLS port for UDP and TLS port for TCP. UDP or TCP is specific to your organisation . Ensure which one you have opted for. Recommended is UDP. Once the Whitelisting is done; recheck the connectivity using the same Check https://www.workapps.com/videocheck

Every check should be green after you are done configuring in the firewall settings. Else the "red cross" means the traffic for the given URL is not yet whitelisted. Go back and enable traffic for that specific URL. In case the status is still loading and DO NOT show the status; reload page.

The configuration for whitelisting must be done for every failed URL if NOT done for *.WorkApps.com.

The whitelisting configuration for each of the Connectivity URL check is given below in the table.

Either of these 2 URLs should be whitelisted. UDP is recommended
1. DTLS (UDP) - turn:turn.workapps.com:443?transport=udp
    OR
2. TLS (TCP) - turns:turn.workapps.com:443?transport=tcp

Our streaming server IP addresses change dynamically hence whitelisting must be done for URLs.

WorkApps URLs with respective Port & Protocol to be whitelisted

How do you come to know that all Configurations are successful?

Refer the image below. This is the result when every check is successful. Users can now start Video Calling/Text messaging.

All checks must be green and between TLS (TCP) or DTLS(UDP - recommended) either of the one must be green. The protocol that your organisation supports must be green.
